How catching works
Three tools, three habitats
Every creature type uses a different tool, and each spawn depends on more than the map. Check time, weather, season and habitat before you set out.
Insect net
Land creatures appear on grass, trees, flowers and cave surfaces. Some only appear at night or in specific weather.
Land creaturesFishing rod
Fish are split by water type and region. Islet fishing can produce seasonal specialties that are not available at home.
Fish listShellfish tongs
Shore-dwellers live in the intertidal zone. Crabs scuttle, lobsters hide and some rare crayfish charge at you.
Shore-dwellersCommon
The most common quality. Easy to find and cheap to sell.
Rare
Less common, often tied to a time, weather or habitat condition.
Stellar
The rarest quality. Some Stellar catches award Footprints.

Frequently asked questions
The basics of the Omnidex, creature rarity and where to sell your catches.
How many creatures are in Petit Planet?
The current English database lists 318 creatures: 97 land creatures, 139 aquatic creatures and 82 shore-dwellers. More may be added at launch.
What is the difference between Common, Rare and Stellar creatures?
Common creatures are the most abundant, Rare creatures are less common and Stellar creatures are the rarest. Some Stellar catches also award Loomix Footprints when caught.
Do creature sizes matter?
Yes. Each species has a size range, and a catch is rated from small to MAX. Higher star ratings and better quality increase the creature's sell price and Folio Score.
What is the Omnidex?
The Omnidex tracks every creature, plant, item, clothing piece and dish you discover. First-time creature catches unlock their Omnipedia entry. Displaying creatures in the Omni-Gallery also unlocks Omnipedia details.
Where do you sell creatures?
Creatures can be sold at shops such as Glenn's Goods. Quality and star rating both affect the price, so a large Stellar catch is worth much more than a small Common one.
