Petit Planet Cooking Guide: Recipes, Strength & Levels

Master Petit Planet cooking: recipe categories, kitchenware, ingredient quality, cooking skill levels, dish strength and the best early recipes to learn.

Petit Planet guide · By Petit Planet Wiki

On this page

Cooking is the connective tissue of Petit Planet’s daily loop. It turns farm crops and beach finds into gifts, strength and a reason to keep a stocked pantry. It is also one of the easiest skills to level if you stop chasing rare ingredients and start cooking what you already have.

How cooking works

Interact with the Cooking Counter to open the recipe menu. A recipe lists ingredient categories, not exact items: “Fruit + Fruit”, “Rare Seafood + Mushroom”, “Flower + Fruit”. Any ingredient that matches the category works, so the same recipe can be made with different harvests.

Cooking uses a skill track with experience. You gain experience by cooking, and higher levels unlock more recipe tiers. The beta had ten cooking levels across four ranks:

RankLevelsWhat unlocks
Slow-Simmer Chef1–4Simple dishes, freestyle cooking at level 3, a chance at Miracle Feast at level 4
Blazing Chef5–7Signature Dishes, more recipe discovery and better quality odds
Feastmaster8–9Banquet Dishes and an improved Miracle Feast chance
Master of the Hearth10Master of the Hearth title

Kitchenware matters

Recipes are tied to a specific kitchenware type. The beta used a Cooking Pot, Oven and Blender, and each supports a different recipe family. If a recipe is not appearing, check whether you are using the right station and have discovered the recipe tier.

Do not assume the most expensive station is always the answer. A simple Cooking Pot recipe is often the best way to grind cooking experience early because the ingredients are cheap and the output is useful for gifts.

Ingredients and quality

Ingredients have categories and quality. A recipe that calls for “Rare Fruit” needs a fruit of at least Rare quality, not any fruit. This is where farming and foraging connect: grow a mix of qualities rather than selling every high-quality crop.

The dish’s final quality is influenced by the ingredients and your cooking level. A high-quality ingredient is not a guarantee of a high-quality dish, but it improves the odds and the result’s value.

Strength, quality and gifts

Strength is the number displayed on each dish. It is useful for comparing recipes, but it is not the only reason to cook:

  • Strength matters for progression and for dishes you use yourself.
  • Quality affects value and collection status.
  • Neighbor preferences matter more than raw strength when gifting.

A neighbor who loves a specific dish will value it more than a higher-strength dish they merely like. Check the gift guide before cooking a batch for friendship.

Best early recipes

The best early recipes are the ones you can repeat. Look for two-ingredient recipes with broad categories:

  • Aromatic Fruit Tea: Fruit + Fruit, Cooking Pot. Simple, cheap and useful for fruit-loving neighbors.
  • Baked Rice Pudding: Rice + Rice, Oven. A reliable grain recipe with common ingredients.
  • Bamboo Apple Slushie: Bamboo Shoot + Rare Fruit, Cooking Pot. A loved gift for Yunguo if you have the ingredients.
  • Berry Rice Delight: Fruit + Grain, Blender. A good use of mixed farm output.
  • Blueberry Peach Bun: Rare wheat + Blue Fruit, Cooking Pot. A higher-quality bake for gifting.

The full dish database has all 120 recipes with ingredient categories, kitchenware and strength. Use the filters to find recipes that match what is in your pantry.

Cooking for neighbors

Cooking is one of the cheapest gift sources once your farm is running. Several neighbors like broad categories such as desserts, fruit dishes or stews, so a single batch can cover multiple days.

Avoid giving dishes that contain a neighbor’s disliked category. Heyu and Medowlyn dislike seafood, Rebella dislikes vegetables and Manna dislikes pepper. The gift finder flags these categories for you.

Leveling efficiently

  1. Cook the simplest recipe you can repeat.
  2. Use common ingredients first; save rare ones for quality attempts.
  3. Check the cooking level unlocks before spending a large ingredient stock.
  4. Cook one new recipe per session for discovery progress.
  5. Save high-quality dishes for gifts or collection.

Cooking experience comes from volume and variety, not from one perfect dish. A stack of fruit tea is more useful than a single rare feast, especially early on.

A week of cooking

  • Day 1: Cook fruit tea until you learn the timing.
  • Day 2: Bake a grain recipe for variety.
  • Day 3: Cook a neighbor’s loved dish if you have the ingredients.
  • Day 4: Use the blender for a fruit/grain recipe.
  • Day 5: Try a rare-ingredient recipe for quality.
  • Day 6: Cook gifts for two neighbors.
  • Day 7: Check the dish database for recipes you have not discovered.

The goal is not to fill the cookbook in a day. It is to build a pantry and a habit that keeps the kitchen useful all year.

Frequently asked questions

How do you cook in Petit Planet?

Interact with the Cooking Counter, select a discovered recipe, add ingredients from the required categories and cook. Your cooking skill level determines which recipe tiers and quality outcomes are available.

What are the cooking skill levels?

The cooking track runs from level 1 to 10. Signature Dishes unlock at level 5, Banquet Dishes at level 8 and the Master of the Hearth title at level 10.

What is dish strength?

Strength is the headline stat on a dish. Higher strength is generally better, but ingredient quality and cooking skill also affect the final result.

Where do you get recipes?

Recipes are discovered by cooking and leveling the skill. Some recipes are tied to specific ingredient categories, while others come from events, shops or neighbor interactions.

Do cooked dishes expire?

Dishes are inventory items rather than real-time perishables. You can save them for gifting, strength use or collection progress.
